During World War II, the British Government commissioned a propoganda poster bearing the now famous words, Keep Calm and Carry On.  The poster was intended to be a “last case scenario” delivering a message that would stiffen the people’s resolve in the event that Germany succeeded in invading Britain. Although the poster was never used, its message is not to be dismissed.  As Entrepreneurs, you will quickly realize that things don’t often go as planned.  Whether it’s a cashflow crunch, a heated argument with an employee or a crisis over a deadline, there will be moments when you may be tempted to give it all up and seek the stability of a paycheque! At times like this, it will help [...]

Let me say this first! I am a big fan of Michael Gerber and I have purchased and read pretty much everything he has written about Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurs.  I have taken his teachings and applied them in my own business and seen very favourable results! The first book I read was The E-Myth.  At first blush, the book appears to be telling you stuff that is practically intuitive!  It’s also a bit unnerving that it is oversimplified to the point that you feel that you’re being treated like a child (you know that feeling that someone is talking down to you or just being patronizing!). I am all for using analogies but when business non-fiction starts reading like a [...]

How many times have you attended a networking event only to realize that you didn’t quite know what to do once you got there? Do you ever wonder why some people seem to effortlessly move around the room, smiling, laughing and making valuable contacts while you stand by the bar nursing a drink or, worse, get trapped in conversation with a leech  who just won’t let go? At the end of the workshop, [...]

In April, in partnership with NetIP Toronto, I hosted a dinner circle for entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs.  One of the questions I was asked at that event and which I have been asked several times is, “How do you   manage to get so much done?” In response to that question and acknowledging the many requests from clients and friends to host a seminar on “getting things done”, I am pleased to announce a special seminar focused on enhancing YOUR productivity! I will present you with 25 tips and action items which are easy to set up and implement.  If converted into habits, you will develop a behavior that will lend itself to execution and getting things done.  The best part [...]

I have a thirteen year old daughter who spends a fair bit of time on facebook.  I spend as much if not MORE time on facebook than she does.  It’s true!  But the way we both use facebook is very different!   She comes home and chats on facebook, she grows things in Farmville, plays games like Mafia wars, answers random quizzes and generally uses facebook to entertain herself.  She’s thirteen and so I don’t let it bother me.  That said, when I see grown men and women with professional careers or thriving businesses fritter away their time reading horoscopes and throwing pillows at each other, I shake my head and think, “what a wasted opportunity”! Facebook can be a powerful [...]

This June I will be featured in FUSIA magazine. For those that may not get a chance to see my interview in print, I have reproduced it below. Any person can buy a business, it takes an entrepreneur to create a business. No one knows this better than Syerah Virani, Editor-in-Chief & CEO of MyBindi.com. When Virani acquired MyBindi.com from its founders in late 2005, it was just another website and one that was in decline. Since then, Syerah Virani quit her bay street law practice and she has transformed MyBindi.com from a website to a thriving online community which is now a go-to destination for everything from event listings, wedding planning, parenting tips to recipes! In this issue, Syerah [...]
