This is one of Albert Einsteins most famous quotes and should be the mantra for every aspiring entrepreneur!  This philosophy is an extension of my earlier post, Don’t just mind the Gap..do something about it! In this blog post, I will show you an example of the innovative entrepreneurial mindset that capitalized on a gap (i.e. a necessity) and created a successful (and legal!) enterprise (invention).

Situation:

Most drivers dread receiving tickets – whether it’s for parking infractions, speeding, passing a red light or for failure to stop. Often, motorists think that the tickets have been unjustly given.  More likely, they know that if they dispute the ticket, there is a good chance that they could plea bargain their way down to a lower ticket, reduce the points or (if they’re lucky) even have the ticket thrown out (because of the back log or if the officer does not show up at trial).  Most of us do not dispute the ticket because it cannot be done online!  You have to do it in person (and it can take hours to do this sometimes) and within 14 days!  If you have ever tried to fight a parking ticket or traffic offence in Toronto, you know how frustrating it is.  You are required to appear in person at a busy office, often waiting in line for well over an hour. It is a waste of everyone’s time. So, we just pay the fine and move on!

The Gap: If only there was a way to have someone else file the “notice of intention” on the driver’s behalf.

The Enterprise:

Enter, www.Parkingtickets.to, launched by Torontonian Greg Kasparian Jr. and designed to help motorists to navigate the system!

He acts as your agent. If you do get a court date, that notice will go to you.

Check out his website for details.  There’s an example of “Doing something about the gap” or as Einstein would say “Necessity being the mother of invention”.

Not all “inventions” lead to successful enterprises but this one below is just SO clever that I had to acknowledge it and give its creator credit for being so innovative!
